Star Trek legend Leonard Nimoy passes away at age 83

spock1He lived long…and prospered. But not long enough for many Star Trek fans, who will be deeply saddened to learn that Leonard Nimoy has passed away at the age of 83, ComingSoon.net is reporting. Nimoy, of course, played the beloved Mr. Spock on Star Trek during the 1960s, a role he would go on to reprise in eight movies, most recently 2013’s Star Trek Into Darkness. In addition, Nimoy would provide the voice of the character on Star Trek: The Animated Series during the 1970s, which brought many writers from the original series back and was the only time that Star Trek won an Emmy. Nimoy’s voice was also heard in Transformers: The Movie as Galvatron, and went on to return to the franchise decades later as Sentinal Prime in 2011’s Transformers: Dark Of The Moon. Disney fans will also remember Nimoy as the mysterious Atlantian King in 2001’s Atlantis: The Lost Empire, while viewers of The Simpsons and Futurama may be familiar with his various cameos–as himself–on those shows. Nimoy passed away following a hospitalization last week that was apparently due to chest pains.
